The Harley Davidson Softail is a classic in it's own right. Harley coined the term Softail in 1984 with the release of the FXST. The Harley Softail got its name due to the hidden rear suspension that give a smoother ride with the look of a rigid frame.
There are several Harley Davidson Softail models but more notable are:

- Harley Davidson Night Train
- Harley Davidson Fatboy
The Harley Fatboy and Heritage Softail are probably the most recognized and known Harley's out there today due to their mass appeal, comfort and customization. Softail model Harley's will come with either X-type, FL-type or Springer leading link forks. Sportster and Dyna softail models use the X-type forks while the touring models use the larger FL-type telescopic forks.
